These Eleven Strategies that will make a difference, were emailed to us by Joseph. It is valuable advice from an Adult ADHD person who knows what he is talking about!

1.  Avoid, Avoid, Avoid all stimulants.  If you are taking a medication, avoid ANY other stimulants.  This includes coffee, chocolate, sugar, etc.  Stay away from those herbal stimulants too such as Ginko Buloba, Ginger, etc.  There is much tosaid for the Feingold Diet.  Try to eat all natural foods.  Many of the artificial ingredients are more prone to cause problems with people who have AD/HD.
Perhaps it is allergies, who knows?
  2.  Keep lists of what needs to get done.  I use a palm and carry it wherever I go. Whenever I think of something that needs to be done, it goes in the palm and gets prioritized so that I don't forget it, and it eventually gets done.  If computers isn't your bag, use an organizer.

3.  The key to learning is repetition.  Over and over again.  I am studying
computers.  I find that flashcards work.  They drill things into the long AND short term memory that other techniques do not.  (the only side effect is owning TONS of flashcards.)   :-)

4.  If you are a parent, you must NOT give up.  It requires constant vigilance.  Youwill need to dedicate yourself 400% more than other parents out there, to your  child.  Your child's success is proportional to how much love and work you put into their learning.  I could not have asked for better parents!
 5.  In certain situations, you will have to alter your environment in order to get  things done.  If you are easily distractable you may have to go someplace where  you can shut a door.  If you are taking a test, perhaps you will need to wear earplugs.  If your handwriting is illegible, you will need a computer.  If you forget things, use a computer to remind you.
6.  People with AD/HD are task oriented.  Generally, if we CAN focus on a task, we can work it to the exclusion of all other things.
The downside is that we could end up kicking a dead horse.  Time management is a weakness.  Make sure you wear a watch.  Try to gauge if you are making progress in a task.  If you are not, it may be time to put it aside and start on something else.
7.  Prioritization is a real challenge.  We often find that we cannot assign the right priority to tasks.  It frustrates our educators, it frustrates our parents, wives and loved ones.  To lick this problem, we need to prioritize EVERY task.  We need to make sure we do not spend too much time on unimportant things.
 8.  Try to look for a job that has a lot of variety in it.  ADHD people generally get  bored with repetitive tasks very quickly.  The idea is to make sure that you get a job that has alot of variety and many interesting projects and tasks to accomplish. I'm in computer tech support.  Every problem is unique, interesting, and different. This keeps me going, interested, and productive.
 9.  Exercise is VERY VERY important.  It is really important that you use
exercise for; stress management, and to get rid of excess energy.  This excess energy can be one of the biggest causes of inattention.  Although I am no expert at brain chemistry.  This I do know.  I am more centered when there are endorphins coursing through my veins.  Parents....get your kids involved in athletics.  ADHD kids are usually solitary and they really need to get themselves involved in groups and people skills.
AD/HD is caused by lack of a specific brain chemical and it is hereditary, according to the latest research. If you are thinking about having children, realise that you will be in for some hard work.  But also realise that the hard work will yield great rewards.
10.  I feel strongly that in many cases, you should share your troubles with
someone else who can understand them.  I joined CHADD recently and have found that it yields dividends.  It provides a well written magazine, (not to minimize the contributions of the Leggs*) support groups, conferences, and lectures.  One place to start is with your local chapter.  They host group meetings, where adults, teens, and children can share their experiences and share their coping strategies as well.  It made me feel great that I could help other people with their problemsand they could help me with mine.  But most of all, it felt great to know that I was not the only one out there with troubles. * The Leggs are your editors of adhdezine.com.
   11.  Last of all, keep your faith.   God pushed us a little harder than other folks  because he felt that we could succeed.  Let's not let him down.  Bless you all.

Regards,  Joseph from New Jersey
